The electricity went off for a couple of minutes.
And life stopped.

I can’t cook – the stove wont function without electricity.
I can’t do my work (on the net)  – the modem refuse to work without electricity.
I can’t bathe – the bathroom is too dark.

And what worse is – I am afraid of the dark!

It makes me wonder – how dependent have we gotten ourselves into living with electricity and how helpless we can get without it. Too dependent…

[week 3] Mastering your PIES with Credit Hour Juice.

Posted by annkays on May 20, 2009

basmalah

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh and hi everyone.

Question :

Can a person master his PIES potential without mastering (and applying in life) the concept of Credit Hour Juice?

My take :

No, one can’t.

“Value five things before five other things:

  • Youth before old age;
  • health before sickness;
  • affluence before poverty;
  • leisure before becoming too busy;
  • and life before death.”

[Tirmidhi].

From the hadith, the Prophet emphasizes the importance to take benefit of the five nikmah (gift) given by Allah before come the other five. Although the statements look simple and easily written, those uttered words by The Prophet (Pbuh) are not just mere theories. They indeed require utmost commitments and perseverance to be able to grab those five before they are gone.

A quick recap;

Credit Hour Juice – a time management tools to squeeze (perform a task)  squeezingly.

MasterPIES – to know and master your Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Spiritual capacity and utilize them to achieve your goals.

[Week 3] The Art of Squeezing.

Posted by annkays on May 20, 2009

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh and hi everyone.

Have you ever wondered how some people manage to do a lot in a day though they are too, given only 24 hours as given to us by Allah?

Have you thought about wanting to do more in your 24 hours but failed each time in each attempt and finally give up trying?

Have you ever sit and wonder why those things you thought you are able to do and complete in less time often end up consuming more time that you have allocated and reserve for something else?

.

Yes, I have always wondered.

How do they do it? Why can’t I? Is it even possible to commit to a schedule?

Alhamdulillah, I have been given the chance by Allah to work closely to some great scholars here in the States and I have always wondered HOW DO THEY DO IT? They are always there in their offices doing work and researches. They never missed a single invitation to any intellectual event yet they also have time to spend inviting guests over to their house for dinner and whenever there are occasions happening in the institute, they’ll be the one serving the guests too, mashaAllah!

WOW.

[Week 2] Know Your Potential

Posted by annkays on May 8, 2009

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh and hi everyone.

What is PIES and human potential?

Let’s take a moment and contemplate on Surah Ibrahim, verse 37.

“O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring to dwell in an uncultivable valley by Your Sacred House (the Ka’bah at Makkah); in order, O our Lord, that they may perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), so fill some hearts among men with love towards them, and (O Allah) provide them with fruits so that they may give thanks.

Notice the narrator of the verse is Prophet Ibrahim instead of Allah himself. Analyzing the verse led me to my notes from my Quran class I had last summer by Dr Eltigani.

(One of) The terms you should know as you read and analyze the stories.

5. The Narrator

A story can be told by

  1. An outside observer, the omniscient point of view, where the narrator is not a character in the play but he knows everything that happens and why; especially feelings and ideas of the characters.
  2. A first person narrator – a character in the story referring to himself as ‘I’ or ‘me’ (here , the reader knows only what this narrator knows and chooses to reveal. )
  3. Several characters within the story

It’s always important to know who’s telling the story.

Further analyzing the verse ( im now compelled to analyze the surah as a whole… but i know I should stick to the post and it’s context…).

[Week 1] Why and How to be a Master PIES? (you-pop-er!)

Posted by annkays on May 8, 2009

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh and hi everyone.

Have you ever found yourself unable to remember a friend’s name? Or how to spell a “difficult” word like .. . “house”? How come you weren’t able to do this? You certainly knew the answer. Is it because you’re stupid? No, it’s because you were in a stupid state! The difference between acting badly or brilliantly is not based on your ability, but on the state of your mind and/or body in any given moment. You can be gifted with the courage and determination of Marva Collins, the grace and flair of Fred Astaire, the strength and endurance of Nolan Ryan, the compassion and intellect of Albert Einstein—but if you continually submerge yourself in negative states, you’ll never fulfill that promise of excellence.

However, if you know the secret of accessing your most resourceful states, you can literally work wonders. The state that you’re in at any given moment determines your perceptions of reality and thus your decisions and behavior. In other words, your behavior is not the result of your ability, but of the state that you’re in at this moment. To change your ability, change your state. To open up the multitude of resources that lie within you, put yourself in a state of resourcefulness and active expectancy—and watch miracles happen!

-Anthony Robbins, ‘Awaken the Giant Within You’.

What is PIES?

InshaAllah as promised in the introduction post, I will share my notes from the weekly session along with my own findings from personal reading and research on the subject. But first, here is a recap :

P : PHYSICAL capacity

I : INTELLECTUAL capacity

E : EMOTIONAL capacity

S : SPIRITUAL capacity

and MASTERPIES :a  training program to helpyou rediscover and MASTER your PIES (biidznillah).

.

For us to recognize and rediscover our spiritual capacity we must develop and progress in all three aspects of our life.

Our Physical cognizance must be awakened.

Conscious understanding of our thoughts must be Intellectually built

We have to learn how our Emotions communicate and react with the self and the rest of the world.

.
