“P.I.E.S.? Not again!”

Posted by annkays on May 24, 2009

I gotta conquer my P momentum. Time to wake up for Fajr!” and she jumped out of her bed.

Ya Allah, my E is so low today. P,I,S help me up! ” said her inner self when difficulty struck.

There is still 2 hours before Zuhur is out. No, need to pray now! When S is good, all is going to be good,” she convinced herself when it was time to pray.

It has been 6 weeks since I first committed myself to the MasterPIES program and alhamdulillah I am seeing the benefit myself.

“Oh my, not PIES again!”

But for some, friends especially, listening to everything being labeled under four categories  P, I, E, S might be annoying. And I first thought so too – life has been either P, I, E, S or a combination of some of the four lately.  But I must say it all come naturally – I would naturally categorize my feelings, activities into these 4 aspects that it has already become a habit.

But I guess that is just how it works.

[week 3] Mastering your PIES with Credit Hour Juice.

Posted by annkays on May 20, 2009

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh and hi everyone.

Question :

Can a person master his PIES potential without mastering (and applying in life) the concept of Credit Hour Juice?

My take :

No, one can’t.

“Value five things before five other things:

  • Youth before old age;
  • health before sickness;
  • affluence before poverty;
  • leisure before becoming too busy;
  • and life before death.”

From the hadith, the Prophet emphasizes the importance to take benefit of the five nikmah (gift) given by Allah before come the other five. Although the statements look simple and easily written, those uttered words by The Prophet (Pbuh) are not just mere theories. They indeed require utmost commitments and perseverance to be able to grab those five before they are gone.

A quick recap;

Credit Hour Juice – a time management tools to squeeze (perform a task)  squeezingly.

MasterPIES – to know and master your Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Spiritual capacity and utilize them to achieve your goals.

[Week 3] The Art of Squeezing.

Posted by annkays on May 20, 2009

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh and hi everyone.

Have you ever wondered how some people manage to do a lot in a day though they are too, given only 24 hours as given to us by Allah?

Have you thought about wanting to do more in your 24 hours but failed each time in each attempt and finally give up trying?

Have you ever sit and wonder why those things you thought you are able to do and complete in less time often end up consuming more time that you have allocated and reserve for something else?

Yes, I have always wondered.

How do they do it? Why can’t I? Is it even possible to commit to a schedule?

Alhamdulillah, I have been given the chance by Allah to work closely to some great scholars here in the States and I have always wondered HOW DO THEY DO IT? They are always there in their offices doing work and researches. They never missed a single invitation to any intellectual event yet they also have time to spend inviting guests over to their house for dinner and whenever there are occasions happening in the institute, they’ll be the one serving the guests too, mashaAllah!

Mrs taxi driver!

Posted by annkays on May 13, 2009

“The first woman taxi driver I’ve ever met here!”

“Oh really? There’re 10 of us”

“From how many?”

“120 total. 10 percent is not bad”.

“It sure isn’t!”

That was how my morning started today.  8 hours in Amtrak’s train and bus traveling fron NY to see my dear friends before they leave the States, I realized that today is Sunday and at that early 8 am the morning, the bus was not in service yet (not until 10am!)

And I start conversing with my inner self trying to intellectually devise a solution

Should I just call a cab?”

“Hmm, maybe I should just wait for the bus…i’ll save some money too…”

“Nah, I’ll call a cab. I have always had good nice experience with the cab drivers here. He/She’ll make my day and I’ll get the chance to do some charity too maybe”

But before I made the call, I did some calculation with that limited cash in my hands. I lost my debit card on my way to Buffalo, NY (I threw it away…accidentally…) and had to begged for dollars on my way back to Ann Arbor – just kidding, my friend lent me 20 bucks on my return trip in case I needed to use some ;).

[Week 2] Know Your Potential

Posted by annkays on May 8, 2009

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh and hi everyone.

What is PIES and human potential?

Let’s take a moment and contemplate on Surah Ibrahim, verse 37.

“O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring to dwell in an uncultivable valley by Your Sacred House (the Ka’bah at Makkah); in order, O our Lord, that they may perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), so fill some hearts among men with love towards them, and (O Allah) provide them with fruits so that they may give thanks.

Notice the narrator of the verse is Prophet Ibrahim instead of Allah himself. Analyzing the verse led me to my notes from my Quran class I had last summer by Dr Eltigani.

(One of) The terms you should know as you read and analyze the stories.

5. The Narrator

A story can be told by

  1. An outside observer, the omniscient point of view, where the narrator is not a character in the play but he knows everything that happens and why; especially feelings and ideas of the characters.
  2. A first person narrator – a character in the story referring to himself as ‘I’ or ‘me’ (here , the reader knows only what this narrator knows and chooses to reveal. )
  3. Several characters within the story

It’s always important to know who’s telling the story.

Further analyzing the verse ( im now compelled to analyze the surah as a whole… but i know I should stick to the post and it’s context…).
